At high concentrations, they are extremely alkaline (pH≈14). It is readily soluble in polar solvents such as water, ethanol and acetone, and undergoes neutralization reaction with acid to form tetraethyl ammonium chloride.

Tetraethylammonium Hydroxide (TEAOH for short), with CAS No. 77-98-5 and chemical formula C₈H₂₁NO, is mostly sold as a 20% aqueous solution, appearing as colorless to pale yellow liquid. It is easily soluble in water and ethanol, with strong alkalinity, stable chemical properties but easy to absorb carbon dioxide in the air[3]. Its core applications are in organic synthesis, electronics, analytical chemistry and other fields. It serves as a strong base catalyst to accelerate transesterification, hydrolysis and other reactions, and also as a phase transfer catalyst to improve reaction efficiency. In the electronic field, it is used for semiconductor wafer cleaning and photoresist development to assist chip manufacturing. It can also be used as an ion-pair reagent to assist chromatographic separation, being an indispensable functional raw material in fine chemicals, electronic manufacturing and other fields with small dosage and remarkable effect.
